Guelmim-Oued Noun Stakeholder Engagement Workshop: Prioritisation of Actions - 23.09.2025

Date: Tuesday 23 September 2025

Location: Region of Guelmim-Oued Noun Offices

As part of the ongoing development of the Green City Action Plan (GCAP) for the Region of Guelmim-Oued Noun, a dedicated consultation workshop aimed at discussing and prioritising key actions will be held in September as a milestone to start the action planning phase.

Over recent months, a baseline assessment has been conducted, drawing on research, policy documents, and stakeholder consultations to identify the region’s main environmental challenges - namely water stress and management, while grappling with rapid urbanisation, and the need to strengthen resilience to climate risks, highlighting significant opportunities for sustainable development. A comprehensive list of proposed actions has been developed and reviewed with stakeholders via a survey, focusing on urgent climate and environmental challenges facing the city, including water management, sustainable energy, integrated transport, inclusive urban spaces, waste management, biodiversity protection, and social inclusion.

After launching a survey to gather the feedback from the local authorities including representatives from the prefectures and communes, the workshop will aim to:

  • validate the prioritisation of sector-specific actions identified through the GCAP process
  • discuss and scope out these actions including explore opportunities for gender and economic inclusion

The event will bring together representatives from local, regional, and national authorities, public enterprises, civil society organisations, and other interested stakeholders. The GCAP is being developed under the EBRD Green Cities programme, with generous support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) through the EnviTeCC Programme.

The consultation will be hosted by the Region of Guelmim-Oued Noun, supported by ARUP and SouthBridge, the consulting partners working on the development of the GCAP. If you wish to find out more about the workshop, please email [email protected].
